This is Laura. Laura hails from Raleigh, NC but currently lives in Richmond with her beloved hound pup Olivia. She completed her undergrad education at Meredith College and has experience working as an infant teacher. Laura hopes to pursue her passion for working with cute kids after she graduates from VCU by working in a pediatric setting. Her prior travels have taken her to Zimbabwe and she is very excited to take another trip to the African continent.
This is Nava. Nava was born in Seattle, WA and completed her undergrad in kinesiology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC. Her favourite foods are mac & cheese and sushi. She loves to travel in the Americas but this will be her first foray to Africa. Nava is most excited to learn local Ghanaian tunes and engage with the kids through sport. She’s hoping they find her horrible football skills endearing.
This is Macy. She is from Sterling, VA and received her undergrad degree in psychology from George Mason University. She has a passion for working with children and enjoys spending leisure time with her sisters, nieces, and nephews. This is Macy’s first opportunity to travel abroad and she is beyond excited for this amazing opportunity. She looks forward to hopefully making a difference in the lives of Ghanaian children and for them to change her life too!
Meet Caitlyn! She is from the Richmond, Virginia and moved back home to attend VCU for OT school. Caitlyn graduated from Virginia Tech in 2013 with a B.S. in Human Development. She is an enthusiastic Hokie football and VCU Ram basketball fan. As someone who has lived in the same area for nearly her whole life, Caitlyn is thrilled to have the opportunity to leave her comfort zone and explore her growing passion for travel. Caitlyn will be staying in Accra, the capital city of Ghana. She is most looking forward to working with and learning from the children in Ghana.
This is Becky. Becky is from Maryland and she earned her undergraduate degree in sociology/criminal justice from Towson University. She has an insatiable sweet tooth, loves going to baseball games, and playing with her cat, Jax. Becky has traveled both domestically and internationally, and is thrilled to finally be going to Africa. She can’t wait to spend time with the kids there, experience the Ghanaian culture, and explore the country!
This is Sam. She is from Richmond, VA and received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Virginia Tech. After graduating from VCU Sam is looking forward to working with children. She has previously traveled abroad to Israel and the Dominican Republic, and is excited to add Ghana to the list.
This is Jouette. She graduated from William and Mary with an international relations degree, and spent a few years in the social work field before deciding on a career change to occupational therapy. She lives in Richmond, VA with her husband and two cats. Jouette loves to travel, and this is her first opportunity to go to Africa. She will be in the Volta region for the majority of the trip, and she is so excited to be working with the children there! (Jouette also finds it strange to be talking about herself in third person)
